Google updated its Search Console documentation TWICE after the post I wrote exactly one month ago (on April 3, 2026). I documented how Googleโ€™s initial statements regarding synthetic impressions were incomplete, detailing the specific impact on both ๐—–๐—ง๐—ฅ and ๐—”๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—ด๐—ฒ ๐—ฃ๐—ผ๐˜€๐—ถ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป.

The Google Search Console documentation was first updated when Google added CTR as an impacted metric. Thatโ€™s because Product Expert Kenichi Suzuki spoke with Daniel Waisberg who is a Search Advocate at Google.

I then had a quick interaction with Kenichi and explained why “Average Position” had also been impacted for months. Iโ€™ve seen SEO agencies take credit for this ranking improvement which isnโ€™t acceptable.

This average position improvement (ranking) happened immediately when Google filtered synthetic impressions (not impressions generated by human users). It was therefore artificial and not the result of actual real-world ranking progression for site owners.

After our chat, Kenichi got the GSC documentation quickly updated for the second time in days! The GSC doc now lists CTR and Average Position as affected GSC metrics.

Good job to Kenichi and the Google Search team for the updates.

However, based on data from the major brands I manage, Google’s claim to have solved the data logging issue on April 27, 2026, is inaccurate.

The synthetic impressions problem is NOT resolved!
